1932 CHEVROLET 5 WINDOW COUPE - CONFEDERATE
The Chevrolet Series BA Confederate was manufactured by Chevrolet in 1932 to replace the 1931 Series AE Independence. When Chevrolet introduced its 1932 models, they were called "The Great American Value". Their road worthiness and durability are as impressive today as when the car was produced. Production slipped significantly from over 600,000 cars to 323,100 for the model year as the Great Depression continued, but was still sufficient for Chevrolet to retain first place in the American car sales table. The new 1932 Chevrolet Confederate is still considered to be one of the best examples of classic automobile design. With 18-inch wire wheels, trumpet horns, chrome door vents on the extended hood, side-mounted spare wheels, attractive two-tone paint schemes, tilting windshield and adjustable seats, it was a far cry from just a couple of years before.
This delightful and exquisite 1932 Chevrolet 5 Window Coupe – Confederate is one of the best examples of 30’s vehicles that we had the privilege of selling. The car presents in superb condition and was subjected to a high quality concours restoration attested by AACA Junior, Senior, Grand National; and VCCA Junior and Senior awards (2011). The level of the restoration is easily noticeable considering body panels, gaps, high quality paintwork in Dove Grey and Ravenswood Brown with Nassau Orange wheels, and the attention to details including the preservation of the original equipment options: radiator cap, taillight, hood ornament, rear view mirror with clock, spot lamps, rumble seat, and tire lock for rear carrier. The chrome and bright trim are all in excellent condition, showing no pits, corrosion, or dings.
Inside, the upholstery is in outstanding condition with seats showing no signs of wear or any damage, appearing fresh and unworn since the restoration. Door panels and carpeting are likewise in excellent condition. Complementing the stunning interior, the dash and mirror featuring a clock bring a charming and unique touch.
For 1932, Chevrolet's focus was the recognition that the improved 194cid OHV six-cylinder engine, rated at 60hp at 3,000 rpm, minimized the need to shift gears. Chevrolet completed the picture by adding a new silent synchromesh 3-speed gearbox transmission, four-wheel mechanical brakes, free-wheeling, a counter-balanced crankshaft to dampen vibration, a downdraft carburetor for a superior engine, and a frame braced with five cross-members to increase chassis strength - all features associated with more expensive automobiles. As expected in an award-winning car, this Chevrolet Confederate runs and drives beautifully making this classic a joy to drive. It is believed that the car has 39,580 original miles and the full restoration, including the engine, was done with less than 2,000 miles.
When Chevrolet introduced its 1932 models, they were called "The Great American Value". Their road worthiness and durability are as impressive today as it was back when the cars were new. This vehicle represents a rare opportunity of acquiring a concours level 1932 Chevrolet Confederate for a fraction of the value of its restoration.
